In the Mayan calendar indirectly implied that life in this world will be destroyed at the end of 2012. At that time, the world will be hit by major disasters and chaos going on everywhere which resulted in destruction of the human race. Curtis Jackson (John Cusack) is just one of the inhabitants of the earth which originally was not too sure of this prediction.
Once horrific events in Guatemala. Hundreds of people have decided to commit suicide because of the ancient Mayan prophecy believe this is true. IHC (Institute for Human Continuity), a secret organization that has long been investigating this prediction eventually came to the conclusion that what was predicted hundreds of years ago it was true. Convinced that there must be 'way out' of this catastrophe, IHC then build a big ship just below the Himalayan mountains.
The plan, they will repeat the events of the time of Prophet Noah and try to save as many people as possible for the human race is not extinct after this major disaster. Outside estimates, shifting tectonic plates, turned out to be faster than that predicted by scientists at IHC. In a flash of Los Angeles destroyed while North Africa and Italy also did not escape from this great disaster.
Now, the fate of mankind in the hands of IHC. Curtis Jackson with Kate (Amanda Peet), his ex-wife, and their two children, Noah (Liam James) and Lilly (Morgan Lily) must race against time to get to the foot of the Himalayas or they will become victims of this catastrophe.
