The Time Machine bercerita tentang Alexander Hartdegen (Guy Pearce) seorang ilmuwan yang mencoba untuk membuktikan bahwa manusia dapat menjelajahi waktu.


Keinginan tersebut semakin terpacu dengan peristiwa terbunuhnya kekasihnya. Dengan cara menguji sendiri teorinya tentang mesin waktu, Alexander pun akhirnya masuk ke zaman 800.000 tahun ke depan. Di zaman tersebut Alexander mengetahui bahwa pada saat itu hanya ada dua kelompok manusia yang akan hidup yakni kelompok pemburu dan kelompok yang diburu.


Dapatkah Alexander kembali ke masanya? Ataukah ia tetap hidup di tahun tersebut?
