At first, Andy intends to store the toys in the attic of his childhood, including Woody that he plans to take it. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding, Andy's mother thinks that the bag containing the Buzz and his friends are garbage bags. He also intends to throw it to be transported by garbage trucks. Seeing this, of course, Woody could not stay silent. Without thinking, the cowboy quickly moved to help his friends.
Apparently, not a difficult case for the Buzz and the others to escape. They managed to escape before Woody came to rescue them. Those who think that Andy is no longer cares about them and then decided to run away to daycare Sunnyside. Woody effort to persuade them to stay too failed, as Jessie (Joan Cussack) who thought that the toy has the right to determine the fate of each. And according to him, donated to children who are still a lot of playing with toys is the most appropriate choice.
Arriving at Sunnyside, they are shown with an atmosphere that seems to be a paradise for the toy. A pleasant place and is still played by children, these things make them increasingly confident that their decision to come to where they are not wrong. Not to mention, they are also greeted with friendly by Lots-o'-Huggin 'Bear (Ned Beatty), the leader of the toys who live in that place. Woody did not want his friends to leave Andy so it continues to persuade them to return. However, Jessie and the toys that still insist on turning the place even persuade Woody to go with them. Woody loyal Buzz clear refuse and asked to leave. But his friend himself thought that it would be better for him to be with others. With a heavy heart, Woody then left the friends he has known since long.

Pada awalnya, Andy berniat untuk menyimpan mainan-mainan masa kecilnya di loteng, terkecuali Woody yang rencananya akan ia bawa. Sialnya, karena suatu kesalahpahaman, ibu Andy mengira bahwa kantong yang berisi Buzz dan kawan-kawan adalah kantong sampah. Ia pun bermaksud membuangnya untuk diangkut oleh truk pengangkut sampah. Melihat hal itu, tentu saja Woody tidak bisa tinggal diam. Tanpa pikir panjang, si koboi segera bergerak untuk menolong teman-temannya.
Ternyata, bukan perkara yang sulit bagi Buzz dan yang lain untuk bisa lolos. Mereka berhasil meloloskan diri sebelum Woody datang untuk menyelamatkan mereka. Mereka yang menganggap bahwa Andy sudah tidak lagi peduli terhadap mereka lalu memutuskan untuk minggat ke tempat penitipan anak Sunnyside. Usaha Woody membujuk mereka untuk tetap tinggal pun gagal, sebagaimana Jessie (Joan Cussack) yang beranggapan bahwa para mainan berhak untuk menentukan nasibnya masing-masing. Dan menurutnya, disumbangkan bagi anak-anak yang masih banyak bermain dengan mainan adalah pilihan yang paling tepat.
Sesampainya di Sunnyside, mereka diperlihatkan dengan suasana yang tampaknya adalah surga bagi para mainan. Tempat yang menyenangkan dan masih dimainkan oleh anak-anak, hal-hal itu semakin membuat mereka yakin bahwa keputusan mereka untuk datang ke tempat tersebut tidaklah salah. Belum lagi, mereka juga disambut dengan ramah oleh Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear (Ned Beatty), pemimpin dari para mainan yang tinggal di tempat tersebut. Woody yang tidak ingin teman-temannya meninggalkan Andy begitu saja pun terus membujuk mereka untuk kembali. Akan tetapi, Jessie dan para mainan yang bersikeras tetap di tempat tersebut malah balik membujuk Woody untuk ikut bersama mereka. Woody yang setia jelas menolak dan mengajak Buzz pergi. Tetapi sahabatnya sendiri menganggap bahwa akan lebih baik baginya untuk bersama yang lain. Dengan berat hati, Woody lalu meninggalkan teman-teman yang telah ia kenal sejak lama.
